The Mequon Public Market project landed its second Milwaukee food business with Purple Door Ice Cream.

Purple Door, founded by Lauren and Steve Schultz in 2011, is based in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point area. The new location at the planned Mequon Public Market at 6300 W. Mequon Road will be its first expansion. The business currently makes 180 different flavors of ice cream that are sold in local restaurants and stores.

The public market will be part of the broader Spur 16 town center project. The market, with about 10 vendors, will be built into a former city building. Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. a week ago was named as the first business that will be in the market.

The Mequon Public Market will open in a renovated former city building on Mequon Road.

The Public Market is to open this fall, according to Spur 16 developer Shaffer Development of Mequon. The broader town center also will have a stand-alone restaurant for St. Paul Fish Co., which currently has one location in the Milwaukee Public Market. The project also will have 156 apartments and townhouses.
